International Publishers Discuss Philosophy in Germany

Abstand
On the occasion of their fifteenth Editors’ Trip, the German Book Office New York decided to do something different, and invited a group of international non-fiction publishers to take part: Giovanni Carletti, Editoria Laterza (Italy); Mikhail Kotomin, Ad Marginem Press (Russia); Marc Lowenthal, MIT Press (USA); Niels Cornelissen Uitgeverij Boom (Netherlands); Tariq Goddard, Repeater Books (England); Marcos de Miguel, Plaza y Valdés (Spain); Ken Wissoker, Duke University Press (USA) as well as Berlin-based American translator Tony Crawford and Riky Stock, Director of the German Book Office in New York.

The international editors travelled to Berlin and Frankfurt at the end of June to meet with German publishing executives and to explore trends in the Philosophy publishing market. Most discussions revolved around marketing trends in Germany; the differences between markets; successful ways to appeal to a broader audience; the use of social media; and the importance of the backlist.

The trip’s success has resulted in a new event at this year’s Frankfurt Book Fair:
