100 years of Tove Jansson – discovering the artist’s many talents

A world without the endearing and anarchistic Moomin trolls and their multitalented creator Tove Jansson (1914-2001) would be boring to live in. Get another crash course: Jansson’s niece Sophia Jansson and the art historian Tuula Karjalainen discuss the extensive but partly neglected oeuvre that covers comics, short stories, poems and novels.

International literature in Germany, France and the United Kingdom – a comparative perspective

The United Kingdom is the largest source of book translations into other languages, while being the least receptive to writing from other cultures. A study by Literature Across Frontiers takes a comparative look at the position of international writing in the three major European language territories, providing a starting point for a debate on the wider topic of cultural exchange, import and export.

StoryDrive is the international forum for trends and innovation for the media and entertainment industries. Whether it comes in the form of a novel, play, film, TV series, console or browser game – stories are the pillars of the media business. And you can’t have a story without a hero – one who tells the story, drives it and lives it. Under the motto "Heroes”, StoryDrive Frankfurt will celebrate the heroes in and behind the story. Editors in a Brave New World

The Frankfurt Book Fair and Publishing Perspectives are again offering the admission-free seminar "Editors in a Brave New World”. The seminar looks at the changing role of editors within an increasingly digitised industry, and this year the panel will explore and discuss options on how to put content online in order to get children reading.
Ungovernable cities – hotbeds for creative people

Cities are ambivalent phenomena: millions of people are leaving the rural areas to settle in megacities, while these cities are more and more unmanageable if not ungovernable. Living in them is a daily challenge, not a pleasant environment. What about creativity in these urban agglomerations? Do they constitute hotbeds or greenhouses for creative people?
