The fair provides a forum for trade and business while working closely with a week-long book festival of readings and discussions in Vienna, 'Buch Wien'

This Book Fair is considered to be the most important gathering of the publishing and literary sector in the Spanish-speaking world, and is accompanied by an extensive cultural and artistic programme. In 2010 more than 1900 publishers from 43 countries and 600,000 visitors – book professionals, librarians, literary agents, authors, illustrators and general visitors of all ages – attended. In 2011, in its 25th anniversary, Germany was the Fair's guest of honour.

This is a major event in the German-language publishing calendar. A wide variety of venues in the town host readings and discussions in addition to the activities at the fair site itself. A good chance to experience writers live – very much a festival for the public as well as professionals.
